But I still can't run malwarebytes, hijackthis, or my virus scan. now I can get to security websites fine without being redirected to spam sites. I uninstalled java and installed the latest version. I've run a few online malware scans (forgive me as I can't recall exactly what they were now) and they have all turned up nothing. I was able to get into avast to schedule a boot-time scan. I've downloaded and installed Hijackthis (installs fine, opens once, crashes on first attempted scan), malwarebytes (same as hijackthis), root repeal (same), and a-squared (runs fine but turns up nothing).
